Stories always go better with pictures

Unfortunately, I cannot find the particular pictures in Vienna that I wanted to share. At any rate, this evening at dinner we were talking about various scandalous topics (okay, so we were being naughty) when for whatever reason talk turned to...um...toys. I mentioned Vienna being the most non-prudish city I knew of: when we were there in 2004, on the main shopping street it appeared that every fourth store was an adult toy shop.

Deb chimed in: "One, two, three, four - I declare a porn store." ...and the company dissolved in laughter. :D

Irritated, actually

Well, this week I finally got the wedding scarf blocking - using my brand new BlocKit blocking wires. The instructions for the wires warn you to wipe them down using warm soapy water, so I did. Then I blocked the white alpaca scarf. Need I continue?

Yes, the white scarf now has grey edges. Sigh. And I really was hoping to gift it tonight or this weekend at the latest, seeing as the wedding was actually six (almost seven) weeks ago. I sincerely hope the grey washes out. If not, I will be exceedingly perturbed.

Around the block

Originally I had intended to post a photojournal entry of the steps to block a lace scarf. This weekend I purchased a set of blocking wires to make said task easier -- but I found out it is only marginally easier. Once I started trying to thread the wires through the edge of the scarf, I decided to heck with the stopping and taking photos every five minutes - the process is just easier to start and get done with all at once.

So, now the wedding scarf is happily blocking and my lower back is yelling at me again. Definitely time to go to yoga tomorrow.

What have you done for me lately?

No, I didn't disappear into a huge nether void (although I wonder what that sucking sound is in the vicinity of my watch?)... At any rate, life moves quickly when you're an active person - and rehearsals just started again this past week. Just over four weeks of 9+ hours of rehearsals each week, and then my life is back to semi-normal.

In the meantime, I've been slogging along on the second sock to match the one I started for my Wales trip. Oh, didn't I mention that one? I'd show you a picture of the first one started, but apparently that one didn't make it to my Flickr photoset of the trip.

So that I am not a naughty crochet teacher, I also finished up a scarf that is a wedding gift today during my class. I have to give it a final wash and block, but it will be on its way to the intended recipient by Saturday. I'll have a pic ready before then.

...and now, off to curl up with a good book and a blanket. 'Night, all.

I really think I need to make these socks,,,

OPAL SIDEWAYS SOCK PATTERN

Sorry for the caps - I was in a hurry and that's how Blogger grabbed the link. Oh, and tha mosquito ringtone that only kids can hear? I can hear it, too, and I have no idea how they can even stand to have that go off as a ringtone. Really.

And the winner is...

Marina!! Thanks to all of you who entered my little contest - you gave me some great ideas for projects with celtic influence. :) Marina - I'll be emailing you. :D

By the way, for some absolute hilarity, you really should check out The Museum of Kitschy Stitches. Stitchy has seriously outdone herself -- this book is wet-yourself funny.

Let the sun shine

So, I'm considering starting Soleil for my next big project. I was going to start a lace shawl straight off, but I can wear the tank now in the 100+ degree weather we've been having and the shawl would have to wait a few months to wear. Hm, must ponder. I've got enough (I think) Fauve by Louisa Harding to make this tank...

So, thanks to all of you who entered my contest for Koigu -- I'll have the winner posted tomorrow afternoon.

I love video sites.

I mean, seriously. David Hasselhoff and cheesy 80s (or 90s?) songs. I tell ya, what could be better?

Sometimes you don't know whether to laugh or cry.

...and just as one last reminder, the contest ends this Saturday! I'll post the winner on Sunday or Monday evening (depending on when I get the time to do so)... Cheers!

A belated thank-you....

Indeed, many MANY thanks go out to Stacey, who sent me a very lovely RAOK gift. Which reminds me, I need to get on the ball and send out a few things myself.

The yarn is KnitPicks Shimmer in the most appropriate color of Happy Dance - all yummy pinks and yellows. Along with it she sent a nice Mary Kay travel bag and lotion and a cute green pen that coordinates nicely. :) Thanks again, Stacey!! I apologize for taking so long with the thanks, but I apparently picked up the package with my mail last week and it got set aside to be opened later. *blush*

...and here I was, trying to figure out what yarn to choose to knit a lace shawl. :)

The sign says it all

I'm taking the time this evening to wander through my photos from the trip -- over one thousand of them, I'm afraid. No, you don't have to look at them all. :)

In the background, the marvelous smells of baking bread - cacen fl (Welsh honey bread). I picked up a Welsh recipe book in order to make bara brith and Welsh cakes - unfortunately I didn't have the time to properly prepare the currants for the first, and I don't have a deep frying pan for the second, so honey bread it is. :D Perhaps later this evening I'll celebrate with a Pimms and lemonade. Good stuff.

Home sweet Home

Well, I'm back, typing from my very own computer for a change. You forget how nice it is to have a keyboard you're accustomed to (with all the symbols and keys in the right place!) until you use one in a foreign country. :D

Right now I've got a lot of catching up to do - emails, phone calls, work and mail, you know the routine - but I hope to get my pictures and notes in order this week and hopefully get some up on my website. We'll see... :D

Cheers!

On the road again...

In just a few we'll be on the road again, off to Bath. I've had so much fun this week in Cardiff, even though the schedule has been a bit exhausting. Only a few more stops before it's back home, so we're making the most of it!!

Cheers!
