Watch this space

Earlier this morning I had the time to take an hour or two to wander around the Old Pecan Street Festival -- mostly before the vendors were open, but I got some nice shots from some of the local artists. Well, mostly localish - Central Texas for the most part and a few from outlying areas. Don't have time to go through the photos right now but I hope to get to those later tonight or early tomorrow to show the goodies.

In other words, if you're in Austin - hie yourself to the festival! :D

Cleaning out my clippings

Well, I've only done a teensy bit of crocheting so far this week - not a lot worthy of blogging about. I did get some pictures taken on Sunday at the Austin Science and Nature Center, but you can follow the shoe picture in my earlier post to my photostream to see more of those.

So, what to blog? Then I remembered that I had a whole stack of things in my bloglines clippings folder to go through - so, here is something that Maglia put up way back in January (yes, I am attempting to clear it out top down - we'll see how that goes).

4 Jobs You Have Had in Your Life:
- Emergency Desk responder (not as exciting as it sounds)
- Campus Store clerk
- Hardware technician (phone-based)
- Data Analyst

4 Movies You Could Watch Over and Over:

- A Chorus Line
- The Court Jester
- The Parent Trap

Yes, I like comedies - romantic and thoughtful, not so much the physical, and preferably with good music. :D

4 Places You Have Lived:
- San Antonio, Texas
- UT campus
- West campus
- Northwest Austin

4 TV Shows You Love to Watch:
I don't really watch much TV, but I have a few old faves that I have on DVD...
- Veronica Mars (I'll try to watch the current one but had to do Season 1 and 2 via DVD)
- The Monkees
- Firefly
- Joan of Arcadia

4 Places You Have Been on Vacation:
- Germany/Austria/Italy (choral tour)
- Cardiff, Wales (choral tour)
- Jamaica
- Disneyworld!

4 websites you visit daily:
- Bloglines
- Google
- Flickr.com
- various internal work sites

4 of your favorite foods:
- chocolate
- lasagna
- macaroni and cheese
- biscuits with sausage gravy

4 places you would rather be right now:
- anywhere in Europe
- the Caribbean
- my LYS
- in bed

4 Bloggers You are Tagging:
Anyone who wants to do this. :)

Just to show them off a little, here's a pic of one on a lily pad stepping stone out at the Austin Nature and Science Center. Crocs Maryjanes in brown - and they are great for walking nature paths!

Should have had an FO

Rain Well, I should have had a finished object to show you. Instead, I have a picture of the rain. Sudden thunderstorms interrupted the football game I was watching, and then took out my power -- so I left home for an hour or two to finish the game elsewhere, but before I did, I wandered outside to get some pics of the rain. Follow the pic to my Flickr photostream to see more.

Stupid tolerance level

I have a gift and a curse -- a super high tolerance level for things like alcohol. You know, things that generally affect your nervous system. Including pain meds, unfortunately.

Right now, that means the Soma that I took almost an hour ago hasn't kicked in. At all. The vicodin and skelaxin I'd been taking in the previous two weeks likewise had little effect on the back/hip spasms. Well, I stopped taking the vicodin after a couple days - although a double dose would at least get me loopy enough to sleep, it's not something I want to be dependent on.

Today, my doctor had me try medrol and soma (with all the appropriate warnings as to how fast the latter should kick in). To be fair, I am probably in less pain now than I would be otherwise, which is a benefit, but I still feel a good hot of pain when I move wrong - and not one whit sleepy. Perhaps it is time to dig out my old copy of War and Peace.

On the other hand, the alcohol tolerance thing might have made me a good pirate. Arrr.

Today's Post is brought to you by the Letter...

Yup, it is once more International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Watch your favorite pirate movies. Hop around on one leg (hey, that gets me off the hook. Heh.) , and pretend you have a parrot on your shoulder.

Seriously, who am I gonna share all my booty with?

Mush for brains

AAAAAAAAAaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgh. And you can quote me.

Somehow, between Friday afternoon at work and getting home that evening, I managed to misplace my camera. My brand new camera (no, thankfully not the DSLR - that's too big to lose) that I bought a couple weeks ago. There is a slim chance that it got left in the car of a co-worker - so I am sincerely crossing my fingers for that happenstance, because I just can't seem to find it around here.

EDIT: Found it. Silly thing fell into a box where I set down my purse on Friday. The offending box has been disciplined and the camera is now back in its correct storage place.

Unfamiliar activity

For the first time in weeks, I am sitting in my living room, watching TV and knitting. Since I've been having hip trouble, I haven' t just sat around in ages. Lay around, yes - not much sitting, though.

Slowly (agonizingly slowly), I've been working on Lotus Blossom from the Summer 2006 Interweave Knits. At about two to four hours of knitting a week, I've gotten 12 whole rounds knit. Nothing truly picture-worthy, but I think I like how the lace pattern is working up.

In other news, Texas is totally kicking Rice's tail. Go 'Horns!

Have back pain...

...will walk. Sometimes it's frustrating that I've been doing more yoga to increase my back strength and yet I managed to torque my hip and back but good in the last couple weeks. Finally I got my doc to prescribe painkillers and muscle relaxants, although they don't seem to be doing me much good. The hour or two spent walking this evening seems to have helped, though.

Of course, I haven't gotten much knitting or crocheting done in the last three or four days, so no pics on that front, but here's a bit of fun from this evening...

Blinking memory card failed and lost part of my 26 Things pics. Stupid memory card.
