Stupid tolerance level
I have a gift and a curse -- a super high tolerance level for things like alcohol. You know, things that generally affect your nervous system. Including pain meds, unfortunately.
Right now, that means the Soma that I took almost an hour ago hasn't kicked in. At all. The vicodin and skelaxin I'd been taking in the previous two weeks likewise had little effect on the back/hip spasms. Well, I stopped taking the vicodin after a couple days - although a double dose would at least get me loopy enough to sleep, it's not something I want to be dependent on.
Today, my doctor had me try medrol and soma (with all the appropriate warnings as to how fast the latter should kick in). To be fair, I am probably in less pain now than I would be otherwise, which is a benefit, but I still feel a good hot of pain when I move wrong - and not one whit sleepy. Perhaps it is time to dig out my old copy of War and Peace.
On the other hand, the alcohol tolerance thing might have made me a good pirate. Arrr.
