If I ever get over cedar fever I may actually get around to trying my first pair of socks.

This week I was able to visit a new yarn shop - Ewe N' Eye in Boerne, Texas... This place is great! It is half toy shoppe, half yarn/needlework shop, straight out of old world Germany. I picked up a couple skeins of sock yarn and a german pattern book that has two sweaters and a cap I really like (thankfully with English translation).

Quote for the day:
"To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never. In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony." --William Channing

Biggie wool, biggie wool
Wool you be my next project?
Heh. I've been spending waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time in front of my computer. Or my knitting. Or both. :D At any rate, the Rowan Big Wool scarf I am working on is coming along nicely -- probably about a 3rd done. I should have made it wider, but as I dislike really wide scarves, it is just perfect for me. :) Picture and pattern coming soon!

Here's the London Beanie pattern I am going to make for my nephew -- turns out that the hat I made him for Christmas was too small. No big loss, though - it fits his little brother and he gets a cooler hat. :D Thanks so much to Peggy for sending me this URL!
Ooooooooh, it occurred to me that I didn't even get to happy joy dance about my Christmas presents here 'cause I've been so busy. Mum was super-marvy this year and got me two huge craft books, a notebook and a set of Denise Interchangeables!!!
I've already started two projects on the Denise needles -- they knit well and the joining is very firm, so I don't have to worry about it coming apart. So far I've only used them with acrylic yarns, but I'd imagine they'd do well with cotton and wool as well.

Yes, yes, YES!!! I just finished blocking out the filet piece -- it is DONE! It just needs to dry overnight on the blocking boards and hopefully it will look as stellar as I'd intended. :D
Bless my poor tired eyes. Just three rows left on the filet, then I can wash and block it! I just pray that these stainless steel pins really are rust-proof, or I am going to be rather put out.
Sick as a dog and 6 more hours to work...maybe I can convince my boss to let me go home early. Besides, I want to play with my Christmas presents! Mom was nice enough to get me a set of Denise interchangeable needles, along with the Reader's Digest Encyclopedia of Needlework. I also got a new notebook computer, which will help out a lot with my web development (especially since I am never at home to use my desktop).
As of last night, just 14 more rows to go to finish the filet. The first seven are almost all mesh, so they'll go quickly, then I just have to finish the other end of the border. After that I should be able to wash and block the piece -- I'll get a pic up as soon as I get it all done! :D

Blicky - had to go to work the day after Christmas. :(
...and it would certainly help if I could count. When I thought I had about 20 rows to go, I actually had about 40 - I was counting sets of 10 rows as sets of 5 instead. Now I only have a little over 20 rows to go - all of the letters are finished save 3 rows on the first R, and then I just have to finish the remaining mesh and border. She saw it last night and is already making plans to frame it.

Amazing how long it can take you to finish "just a few more rows". Well, I am down to about 20 rows or so, I think. At 15 minutes per row, if I work on it all today I may have it finished. At the very least, it should be finished by Saturday to give to my friend...I hope. :)

Busy, busy, busy...
I stayed up until 5:30 yesterday morning to finish knitting a scarf as a gift for my best friend from high school. It was worth it, though -- she loved the scarf. :) I made the pattern up as I went, so I bought more Rowan Big Wool for myself to make a second one to see if I can duplicate the pattern. If I manage it, I'll publish the pattern on my website with a picture. It did come out rather well.
I just finished Meesha's Christmas gift --- just a few more rows to go on Emmy's. We're off to dinner now - more later. :)

Yay - I finished all the little beaded Christmas trees to give as gifts for my co-workers last night. They went a lot faster than I'd anticipated, so I may even stop to get the materials for more to make for the ladies at the knit shop Saturday.

Just two hours to go until the 3rd concert for Chorus Austin - much as I love to sing, I really am thankful that this is the last concert this year. We even have a break from rehearsal until January 20th - what will I do with myself? :)

Update on the brownies: Suzanne brought more brownies in on Saturday -- these are absolutely amazing and super-yummy brownies! She had three different flavors available - chipotle (sounded too scary to try), macadamia (probably delicious but I hate macadamia nuts) and candied ginger (I couldn't stay away from these!). According to Suzanne, the shop owner does put liqueur in some of the brownies, so that may be why we got a little silly last week! :D
Three concerts and a double handful of rehearsals in a week and a half ------ aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh, I am bushed. Only one more rehearsal tonight, and one last concert tomorrow, though.
On the plus side, I've gotten almost all of my Christmas gifts finished (just a couple left for friends here in town). Everything that had to be mailed has been, so I can relax a little. I am looking forward to going down to HCW on Saturday, though. I think I'll make something yummy for the ladies to snack on.
OOOOOoh, and there is a great review of our Messiah concert from this past Tuesday at the AAS website. It'll only be up for a couple more days, so I am adding a copy of it to my scrapbook in RL.

Twelve Rules of Life
Sometimes we just need to remember what the 12 Rules of Life really are...
Sometimes we just need to remember what the 12 Rules of Life really are...
- Never give yourself a haircut after three margaritas.
- You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move
and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape. - The five most essential words for a healthy, vital relationship are
"I apologize" and "you are right." - Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
- Never pass up an opportunity to pee.
- If he/she says that you are too good for him/her -- believe them.
- Learn to pick your battles; ask yourself, "Will this matter one
year from now? How about one month? One week? One day?" - When you make a mistake, make amends immediately. It's easier to eat crow while it's still warm.
- If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You have another chance!
- Living well really is the best revenge. Being miserable because of
a bad or former relationship just might mean that the other person
was right about you. - Work is good, but it's not that important. Money is nice, but you
can't take it with you. Statistics show most people don't live to spend
all they saved; some die even before they retire. Anything we have isn't
really ours; it was given to us by God; He just let's us borrow it while we're here....even our kids. - And finally ... Be really good to your family and/or friends. You
never know when you are going to need them to empty your bedpan.

Slowly but surely I am getting these Christmas presents finished up. In the next couple of days I have to finish Shawn's scarf (still needs a foot or so) and the two pairs of slippers for my BILs (which should only take a couple hours apiece). Once that is done, I can finish up Mom and Emmy's gifts and see what else I can pop out before Christmas.
I did sell my first hat yesterday - one of the ladies in the chorus saw the hat I made to match my HP scarf and asked me to make her one as well. That particular pattern only takes about an hour, so I agreed and she got her hat at practice last night. Speaking of practice, 3 more rehearsals and 3 concerts to go!!!

Hm... mysterious brownies make knitting circle get a little crazy...
LOL! I suppose that could have been last night's headline! Goodness knows we certainly did get wild with some real groaners of jokes. It was a great time, and I got another foot or so done on Shawn's scarf. I think it needs just about another foot and a half. Once I finish that and Jesse and Ernie's gifts, I can get the ones that need to be mailed off.
I just need to find the time - 10 rehearsals and 3 concerts coming up in the next two weeks - I am going to be exhausted!

It was pick on sopranos night again last night. Kenny says we need to not give him faces when we're singing flat. I wasn't making faces before, but I almost stuck my tongue out at him then. Ah well, this concert is in 7 days (plus two more within a week after that) and then I can relax for a couple weeks.
At the very least, I am still managing to get some knitting done before rehearsal and at the break. I've added almost 6 inches to Shawn's scarf -- but I need at least 3 more feet, I think.

Nothing like 4 days off to get some serious work done. Lessee, I did two pairs of slippers (Mom keeps her house too cold!), Tina and Katie's gift sets, finished Jasmine's hat, and got another foot added to Shawn's scarf. I also finished the two fleece blankets for Sonja and Johnathan.
This week I need to finish Shawn's scarf and the slippers for Jesse and Ernie, and then I can get both boxes of gifts in the mail and concentrate on the rest of the things I still have to finish. :)
